The Lore Lindu National Park has been active from 1992 with Nature Conservancy and the Directorate General of Protection and Conservation of Nature (PKA) to keep the ecological balance in the ecosystem of the region. For its brilliant infrastructure the park has been declared as a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
Located on the beautiful yet complex looking rift valleys and steep folds of the mountains in the central part of Sulawesi, Lore Lindu National Park covers an area of 568,000 acres (217,000 hectares). The park is considered as a safe home to all the endangered mammal species of Sulawesi. Some of the mammals that constitute the family of the animals in the park are:
Mountain Anoa, a dwarf buffalo once easily spotted but now rarely viewed.
Babirusa, an animal resembling both pig and hippopotamus
Three species of tarsier, the world's smallest primate
Tonkean Macaque
Marsupial CuscusThe park is also home to a huge 227 different species of birds of which 77 are exclusive to Lore Lindu National Park only.
